This month we are hosting the fourth of our MP Brunch Connections series, with another virtual event on a topical public policy issue. Please join the MP Joyce Murray team and guests in a conversation on “The Web Giants: Are They Too Big to Regulate?” with our special guest speaker, The Honourable Steven Guilbeault.  Steven Guilbeault and I first met at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2001. Since then we have been united in the fight for bold climate action. The Hon. Guilbeault is the Minister of Canadian Heritage and works to support our vibrant Canadian broadcasting industry. It is important to the Canadian identity that our stories are told. The Canadian broadcasters such as CBC and Corus Entertainment that tell our stories provide a valued service to people in Canada and around the world. How can we ensure web giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime invest in Canadian content as local broadcasters do? Does CRTC have the tools necessary to enforce this?

The Honourable Steven Guilbeault was elected the Member of Parliament for Laurier—Sainte-Marie in 2019. Minister Guilbeault is a prominent advocate in the fight for bold climate action and has been leading the charge from Montreal for years. In 1993, Minister Guilbeault co-founded Équiterre, the largest environmental organization in Quebec, and served as its Senior Director from 2008 to 2018. He also worked as a Director and Campaign Manager for Greenpeace and was a Strategic Advisor for more than 10 years at Cycle Capital Management, a Canadian fund dedicated to the development of clean technologies. Minister Guilbeault is a pragmatist who works to make a difference by building bridges and relationships. An avid cyclist and sportsman, Minister Guilbeault is a father of four and stepfather of two.
