September 28, 2017 – Toronto – Office of Joyce Murray
Today, Joyce Murray, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Quadra (B.C.), is honoured to accept a Canada Clean50 Award, which recognizes her commitment to fighting climate change and protecting the environment.
For the past two years, Ms. Murray has been focused on developing a framework to achieve greater GHG reductions across federal operations. Her collaboration across departments, and with provincial, municipal, academic and climate leaders, informed the creation of a new Centre for Greening Government within the Treasury Board Secretariat. Its mandate is to track and report on federal emissions, coordinate efforts across government and drive low-carbon results to meet the Government of Canada greening objectives.
The Government of Canada has committed to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030. This is part of the larger effort to build a cleaner, more innovative economy; one that reduces emissions and protects our environment while providing well-paying jobs for the middle class and those working hard to join it.
Canada’s Clean50 Awards are announced annually by Delta Management Group and the Clean50 organization to recognize those 50 individuals or small teams, from 16 different categories, who have done the most to advance the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism in Canada over the past two years.
Quotes
“This Clean50 award is truly indicative of Joyce Murray’s tenacity and personal leadership. Joyce’s heartfelt passion for the environment has driven her to advance environmental and sustainability issues for over 35 years -- as a private individual, as a business woman, as a member of the provincial legislature in British Columbia and at the federal level. I am honoured to call her my colleague. She is an inspiration to all Canadians”.
– The Honourable Scott Brison, President of the Treasury Board
“It is an absolute honour to accept the Clean50 award. I have dedicated much of my career to environmental issues, particularly those along our West Coast. I am thrilled to see many years of research and policy work by our caucus, and stakeholders along the West Coast, pay off in our Government’s environmental policies and initiatives, such as the West Coast Tanker Moratorium, the Centre for Greening Government and the Pan Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change. There remains much work to be done, but I am proud of the steps that we’ve taken so far. ”
