Dear friends and neighbours,
I wish to invite you to attend the next virtual MP Brunch Connections – “What is a Woman to Do?” on Friday, June 4th, at 11 am with guest speaker Dr. Marina Adshade, one of Canada’s foremost economic experts on the role of women in society.
It is no secret that the COVID 19 Pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on women. Women assume the larger share of care responsibilities – for example, for young children and for home schooling when daycares or schools are closed; or in providing support for older family members. Women’s jobs and earnings were also disproportionately impacted, as many service businesses have had to slow or shut down since the pandemic began. Economic recovery strategies therefore need to pay special attention to women.
Please join us for a presentation and discussion led by Dr. Marina Adshade, about how Canada can build a stronger, more equitable and more resilient economy for all – by focusing on three key building blocks supporting women’s employment.
Dr. Adshade is a faculty member at the Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia. Her unique approach to research applies a mix of economic, sociological, biological, and psychological theories and evidence to a wide range of social issues. She is a sought-after speaker, writer and social commentator and has published over seventy opinion pieces and feature articles in the Wall Street Journal, Sunday Times (UK), Daily Mail (UK), Globe and Mail, Time Magazine, Psychology Today, the Daily Beast, and Buzzfeed.
