Canadians abroad should register with the Registration of Canadians Abroad service for updates and resources for where they are.

As of March 26, 2020:

Under the Quarantine Act, isolation after returning from abroad is now MANDATORY and enforceable through criminal penalties and fines.

Additionally, individuals who exhibit symptoms on arrival in Canada are forbidden also from using public transit to travel to their places of self-isolation. They will also be forbidden to self-isolate in a place where they will be in contact with vulnerable people.

Return to Canada if you are able to

• Only Canadian citizens and permanent residents may enter the country (aircrews, diplomats, and immediate family members are allowed)
  • MARCH 27 UPDATE: The exemption has been expanded to allow temporary foreign workers, recently accepted Permanent Residents who have yet to travel to Canada, and some international students enter.
• If you have symptoms, you will not be permitted to board a flight to Canada. Please seek medical help at the country you are in.
• Only 4 airports are accepting international flights (Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Montréal)
• When you return, go straight home, and self-isolate for 14 days. Do not stop for groceries, reach out to someone who may be able to deliver them before you arrive.

Financial Support for Canadians Abroad

COVID-19 Emergency Loan Program for Canadians Abroad: Canadians abroad directly impacted by COVID-19 will have the option of applying for an emergency loan of up to $5,000 to help secure their timely return to Canada and to temporarily cover their life-sustaining needs while they work toward their return.

We advise Canadians to avoid non-essential travel outside of Canada and to avoid all cruise ship -travel until further notice.
